Welcome to Julien's Newsletter
A new personalised and more varied newsletter to build on the work I've been doing, provide advice, and discuss more personal topics
Hi, I’m
.You might remember me from my work across such publications as
, BBC News, The Brussels Times, Al Jazeera, and Euronews, where I have analysed and discussed political events in France, Europe and across the world. has exceeded my wildest expectations and moved beyond being a new year's resolution encouraging me to write regularly about the French Presidential elections to be a surprisingly popular publication. It is now a solid tool to inform and teach people worldwide about French politics. It is a fact-based, objective, and informative publication helping people across the anglosphere and beyond better understand a country I love.
But while it’s a genuine pleasure to write, it also has limits.
Firstly, focusing on reporting and explaining prevents me from sharing my genuine opinions on certain topics, even if my writing style and political position leak through on geopolitical topics, and somewhat hinders my analysis.
Secondly, the topical focus also prevents me from discussing a wider range of topics and sharing my personal and professional knowledge and experience from a lifetime of working in politics at various levels and elections.
Readers and followers have made a surprising number of requests for me to produce this kind of content in
. Still, I want to keep it focused on what it is now and to build vertically rather than horizontally. This is why I’ve decided it’s time to start another project.
I’m launching this more personalised newsletter, imaginatively titled
, where I will take a closer look at what I have done, currently do, and will do, and allow myself to explore direct questions from you all.I want to use this to dig into the nitty-gritty of what I do as a politico, a campaigner, a political activist, and a strategist in a notoriously opaque industry. The plan is also to speak to my many colleagues across industries.
I also want to use this to explore my own ideological tendencies, to discuss political movements, idealism, realism, ideologies, philosophies, and more. I also want to provide people with content to help them explore this themselves.
While there will still likely be a stronger western lean towards France and Europe, as well as towards the United States, this will also give me more freedom to explore other countries and regions you and I are all interested in with more regularity.
So expect coverage of countries such as Japan and the United States, Ukraine and Russia, and others across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
Hell, if you’re really nice to me, I may even throw in a few discussions on cultural topics like Jazz, art, and other things to add some spice, but you’ll need to subscribe for that.
All I ask is that you guys let me know what topics and advice you’d like to hear in the comments below! After you click subscribe, of course
